Registration Process

Before registering for Suzuki Violin Lessons with Musicmakers, prospective Suzuki parents will have several contacts with Karen Roth by phone, email, and/or text.  A basic understanding of the Suzuki teaching method and philosophy is necessary before starting lessons.  The Suzuki Association of the Americas has well-written descriptions at their website, suzukiassociation.org, in "About the Method" under "Parents" in the menu.  A full understanding of Musicmakers' calendar and lesson schedule is also needed before committing to lessons.  Observation of both private and group lessons is recommended, with or without the child, depending on their age.  A free trial lesson is one of the last steps, to let the parent, child, and teacher get acquainted.  No teacher can be "the right teacher" for every student/family.  And sometimes when a parent hopes their child is ready for lessons, a teacher sees ways to continue preparing, thereby laying a foundation for success.  The trial lesson allows those personal assessments.

Registration is not completed online.  Placing a new family in the existing private lesson schedule can be the biggest challenge and can only be done by Karen.  If a new family begins lessons at the beginning of a new school year, they can be part of the schedule-building process, which is complicated and takes Karen some time.
